Christmas Wreath

pen

I love a Chritmas Wreath. I really love a wreath at any time of the year in fact, but at Christmas it is extra special.

I grew up at a time when wreaths were exclusively for funerals symbolising the circle of life and wreaths were not part of Christmas.

It has become part of our tradition. Each year at the start of Advent the two wreaths are taken down. One was made with twigs which were then glazed and it is over 30 years old. It has a snowman sitting on it together with his snow shovel. This wreath stays up until mid January as the snowman has a really happy smile.

The second wreath is only about 10 years old and has had many make overs. The wreath itself is made of straw with wool wrapped around it to keep it in place. This year it was wrapped in red fabric and some green narrow ribbon then added to lift it. Sitting across this wreath looking at the world passing by is a white robed beared manequin with a genial smiling face. This wreath is taken down on January 6th when the celebrations of Nollaig na mBan have finished.

What are your thoughts on wreaths and especially Christmas wreaths?
