Summer Solstice

It is amazing only one more day to the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere.

It has bee a weird summer weather wise. So far there has not been the heat od summer. The sun has not brought it’ s warmth so far. Although I do not like the summer heat, we do need it.

Have you noticed the change in colour of the the sky at different times of the day? Sunsets and sunrises paint the sky in a myriad of colours. the colour of a sunrise can at times be sharp and yell “wake up”.Then the opposite in a sunset. There can be apricot colours at both sunrise and sunset but subtly different. Now, i do not want to know the reason why. I just love to see them.

Sunset at Waterford Harbour.

A friend used to say that even if she could not longer work or sit in the summer sunshine she was still filled with joy when she experienced a summer’s day. Those days unfortunately have been very few here unnlike the rest of Europe. There they have been experiencing temperatures in the 30’s and some have even seen 40C. Now that is unbearbly hot.

June 21st, Summer Solstice, feels like a special day. Sunrise is due on the east coast at 4.54 and sunset 9.59. A little over 17 hours of daylight.

It is said that the word “Solstice” means to stand still. Perhaps on June 21st we can all take a few minutes to stand still and just be. To actually see hear the pictures and sounds that are around us. Perhaps over a cuppa?
