Word of the Year.

For the past nearly three decades I have chosen a word or on occasions a phrase for the year. I am not sure why I started but it became a habit for me. It was only when I began to read through journals that it became apparent to me that these words became extremely active for me in that particular year.

I actually never thought that anyone else might be doing the same thing until it happened to come up in conversation with a friend. Low and behold she had been doing the same thing. The number of people choosing a word of the year is huge and I thought I had been the only one. You just never know.

How do I choose a word of the year. Generally the word chooses me. It can come to me in October or November of the previous year. This word seems to want to remain with me and at times challenge me. Sometimes the word just annoys me and lingers. There is something magical about finding that word of the year or phrase which sits beautifully within.

A blank for My Word of The Year

There have been a few years when the word I thought was going to be my word of the year turns out not to be. Then another word wriggles it way into world and takes up residence perhaps even two months into the year. Both words would be associated.

This year I started thinking of my word in November but no matter what word came up it just didn’t feel correct. The words ranged from realign to calm from accommodating to simplify. But none of them stayed  for any length. The more I tried to find a word the more elusive it became. The word was hidden somewhere but where that was I hadn’t a clue.

While doing a little clearing of old greeting cards which I had received over the years I found a scrap of paper with a quote “Allow yourself to be delighted by life today". this really got me thingking.

Then I realised that I was seeing the word “delight” in so many things. Even in texts from firends. I also realised that I had started to use it myself. Yes my word had found me and it is “delight”. I have also found that the quote above is from “Have a Delightful Day” Saratogacean.com

So let me hope that you have a delightful day, week and year.

My word this year is also "delight".
